Why Your iPhone Battery Is Dying and the Super Simple Fix
If you recently upgraded your iPhone to iOS 7, you might suddenly feel like you’re carrying around a useless brick instead of a reliable smartphone. I couldn’t figure out why my phone’s battery died after just a few hours.
Turn Off Background Refresh
Here’s the super simple fix: turn off a new feature called “Background Refresh”. That’s it.
Background Refresh is meant to be a multitasking feature and the default setting is ON. It automatically refreshes apps that are running in the background. Unfortunately, it’s a real battery hog.
This is especially true if, like me, you really wear out your electronics and you have an older model like the iPhone 4 or 4S. I think the iOS 7 operating system might be outpacing the older hardware a bit.
To turn it off, open Settings and click on General > Background App Refresh.
Click the toggle switch indicated here and then click “Disable Background App Refresh” when prompted.
Your battery should behave better now.
