National Do Not Call Registry
Raise your hand if you enjoy getting telemarketing phone calls at home. Ha ha. If you haven’t already registered your home and mobile phone numbers with the National Do Not Call Registry, do it now – it’s easy and only takes a few minutes.
Visit their site or call 888-382-1222 from the phone number you want to register. Allow about a month to see a drop-off in telemarketing calls.
No Expiration
Thanks to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act in 2008, your number will stay on the list until it’s disconnected or reassigned. So if you’ve moved recently and have a newly assigned number, register it right away. They will call you!
If you can’t remember if you registered a phone number or not, the Do Not Call Registry makes it easy to verify. Pop in your number, and you’ll get verification by email.
Quiet the Noise
This is one part of a personal campaign to quiet the noise of advertising in my life. Expect it to get louder and more distracting, not less, going forward. What else can you do to quiet the noise?
- Opt-out of paper catalogs at CatalogChoice.org
- So long, Yellow Pages at YellowPagesOptout.com
- Good riddance junk mail at DMAChoice.org
